Abstract

This article is a companion piece to an earlier article reporting the general results of a study of issues pursued to grievance arbitration by Iowa public school teachers [1]. It examines difficulties for administrators identified in the specific issues of seniority, transfer reduction in force, and recall. Given complicated economic times, these issues indicate that administrators must be careful with contract language to avoid potential negative consequences to the district. Suggestions on how to recognize and eliminate such consequences are included.
