Probing Ulcers to Detect Osteomyelitis

If bone was palpable when probing pedal ulcers in diabetic patients, osteomyelitis was likely. Bone was palpable by probe in 33 of 50 with osteomyelitis and 4 of 26 without. (JAMA. 1995;273:721-723.)
