Weight Loss in Women Improves Longevity

Intentional weight loss in middle-aged women with obesity-related conditions, there was a 20% decrease in all-cause mortality, a 40% to 50% reduction in mortality from obesity-related cancers (breast, uterus, ovary, cervix and gallbladder), and a 30% to 40% reduction in mortality from diabetes. Their relationship to mortality in women with obesity-related conditions was not as clear. (Am J Epidemiol. 1995;141:1128-1141.)
